BTCCSquare news:

Real World Assets actively deployed in DeFi protocols are on the verge of crossing $4 billion. As of August 18, DefiLlama records the figure at $3.98 billion. Just twelve months ago the same number stood at $650.88 million. Three years back it was around $12 million. That represents a 6x increase in one year and over 300x growth in three years.

DefiLlama’s methodology only counts tokenized assets when put to actual use onchain. Collateral posted in lending markets qualifies. Liquidity in DEX pools and deposits locked in vaults count as well. Tokens in wallets simply earning fund yield do not. Total tokenized issuance across the sector now sits at $34.55 billion, implying roughly 11.5% of all RWA tokens are deployed onchain.

Tokenized Treasuries lead in issuance but remain largely idle. BlackRock’s BUIDL holds $2.74 billion issued, yet just $18 million shows up in DeFi—a utilization rate of 0.66%. Franklin Templeton’s BENJI product registers a utilization rate of zero. Combined, over $3 billion of tokenized money market exposure never touches a lending pool. The design of these funds, built for institutional cash management with whitelisting, explains the low onchain engagement.
